Nanhi Kali

Project Nanhi Kali Case Statement

Executives Without Borders and Nanhi Kali have created a partnership to improve capabilities and maximize impact.

Nanhi Kali, under the leadership of their Executive Director, Sheetal Mehta in India, is dedicated to keeping underprivileged girls in school to complete their education and become literate and active participants in their communities. More often than not young Indian girls will drop out of school or be forced by their parents to quit and work to help support the family. Nearly 40% of underprivileged girls drop out of primary school and more than 70% drop out of secondary school.

Project Nanhi Kali works to keep India's young girls in school by providing academic and direct material support in the form of uniforms, clothes, notebooks and other educational materials. Project Nanhi Kali continues to be very successful in their mission. Fewer than 10% of young girls involved with Project Nanhi Kali drop out of school which means that over 90% continue on with their education and become thriving pillars in their communities. Because Project Nanhi Kali has had such amazing results, they have ambitions to more than double the number of young girls they help. Last year they helped 43,000 young girls become educated and Nanhi Kali plans to expand its program to support 100,000 young girls by the end of this year. They cannot achieve this goal without our help.

Over the years, Nanhi Kali has invested most of their resources in individual children and their education. As the number of children increased so did the complexity of matching donors with children and of managing the operation. New and sophisticated data systems are required as are new methods of outreach to new donors to meet the increased need for funds. A team of executives is needed to help with business planning, operations, IT support and strategy to help scale up their operation to increase the number of children that can be helped.

ExecWB Will Help Nanhi Kali

Our goal is to provide top talent and resources to Nanhi Kali at no cost to them. With your support we can improve their effectiveness, efficiency and the demonstration of return of investment for donor dollars. As a result we will create conditions to increase the number of girls reached from 43,000 to 100,000 and create a catalyst for long-term sustainable development. This impact will create a meaningful change in thousands of girls' lives and give them an opportunity to make a difference in the world today.

ExecWB is looking for executives who are interested in leveraging their time, talent, and treasure to make a positive impact in peoples lives. The program at Nanhi Kali will continue to evolve, but there is immediate need of help from business leaders to:

  • Enhance their current Management Information System to improve reporting and prepare for additional growth
  • Generate a formal requirements document to establish a system baseline
  • Increase transparency and effective financial reporting
  • Improve the renewal process for sponsoring a child and progress reporting back to donors to increase the likelihood of renewals
  • Expand the donor network into new markets to reach the nonresident Indian population and better leverage their foundation in the United States
  • Develop new strategies for marketing and to leverage technology to increase awareness of their cause
  • Assist with the development of metrics to show donors measurable impact and the return on investment (ROI) for dollars spent

Initially we need executives to operate in a virtual capacity to further refine requirements and develop specific milestones, metrics and outcomes. As the program progresses we will use resources to send volunteer executives for short term deployments to work in specific areas of opportunity or assist with the hiring of local staff positioned to implement program areas. We will actively use our network to provide ongoing operational and strategic support to Nanhi Kali in all management areas. We also plan to strategically use small amounts of capital to make high impact investments in Nanhi Kali's programs to complement the work of our executives.

Throughout the program implementation there will be key milestones and outcomes established and measured to assess our engagement and maximize positive impact on the Nanhi Kali project.

Financial Contributions

We need your talents and skills. And we need financial resources to help assist with the building of schools. Can we count on you for a personal donation of $10, $100 or $1000? Does your company have a foundation that could donate on a larger scale $10,000, $50,000, $100,000?

Your financial donations will help us strengthen the infrastructure of NGOs like Project Nanhi Kali. Your donations will fund travel and lodging for volunteer executives deploying to the field to offer their business talents in person. Also, the funds will go to augment NGOs budgets and provide services like phone and computer connectivity and strategic investments that many NGOs currently do not have in their budgets.

With your help we will improve the effectiveness of Project Nanhi Kali's current donor dollars while at the same time improve the return on investment of future donations.

Build The Network

We encourage you to help us spread the word if you know of others in your network that would be interested in volunteering or contributing to the Nanhi Kali project or another Executives Without Borders project.
